DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE

Our H&D Book Club pick for the month of February, “Bunny: A Novel” by Mona Awad, is one wild ride. The novel takes place at an elite New England university named Warren (thought to be inspired by Brown University where the author studied). The main character, Samantha, is an outsider in her MFA program but she befriends a group of popular, seemingly perfect girls she calls "Bunnies." Samantha tumbles down the rabbit hole with the Bunnies, who host alcohol-fueled “Smut Salons” and sacrificial workshops to help inspire their creative process and deepen (and darken) their writing.

It's a trippy story about friendship, belonging, loneliness, and the intense power of the imagination. The book is so witty and sharply written, with sentences like: "Their skins glowing with health insurance..." And, “Behold the white people in black discussing grants they earned to translate poets no one reads from the French.” But it's also super bizarre... Have you read "Bunny"? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
