A Mid-Summer Mountain Picnic

We escaped to the mountains last night for an evening picnic followed by cake and champagne under the stars. After a long day of work, there’s nothing better than a quick drive up the canyon to break up our routine and escape the heat—and soak up the last of summer evenings!

For an easy mountain picnic, we like to pack a spread of simple sandwiches like these turkey and brie bites with peaches and arugula—paired with a simple green or pasta salad. Sometimes we opt for a cheese and charcuterie board with olives, nuts, and crackers that we can snack on while playing cards or reading a book in our hammock.

We like to dress up our picnic table with a washed linen tablecloth and cloth napkins. Rather than using paper plates (and to help reduce waste), we like to pack a set of fancy looking but fuss-free dishes like these tin and melamine plates by Courtland & Co. For the final table flourish, fill a simple vase with some store-bought roses or fresh flowers snipped from your own garden.

When the sun begins to set, it’s time to pop some bubbly and enjoy a yummy dessert like this buttercream cake by Tulie Bakery. Gather around the fire and enjoy gazing at the twinkling stars as the sky begins to darken. Don’t forget to bring a lantern or flash lights so you can pack up your picnic in the dark!
