A Taste of Spain in SLC: Mar | Muntanya Restaurant

Mar Muntanya Restaurant in SLC

Funeral Croquetas, a twist on Utah’s beloved funeral potatoes and traditional Spanish croquettas, at Mar | Muntanya in downtown Salt Lake City

You can take the girl out of Spain, but you can’t take the Spain out of the girl… so I was excited to hear about the opening of Mar | Muntanya Restaurant in the new Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City. The Spanish restaurant is located on one of the hotel’s top floors and features sparkling views of the downtown skyline.

The menu focuses on traditional dishes from Northern Spain (home to San Sebastián, my favorite city!) but with a local twist. Think beloved tapas like patatas bravas and Funeral Croquetas (a play on funeral potatoes), larger dishes like seafood paella, grilled pulpo, and elk tenderloin, plus cinnamon churros for dessert.

To drink, there’s Spanish wine, sangria, and gin y tonic, but for something different yet surprisingly refreshing try two of my fave cocktails: una Clara (lemonade and beer) or Kalimotxo (red wine and cola). ¡Salud! p.s. The restaurant features live flamenco music and dancing on Wednesday nights.
